Anadolu Efes vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Preview

Anadolu Efes continue their fantastic play and rise in the Euroleague standings, with one of the last three obstacles being Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Turkish club targets a sixth consecutive win, while the Israelis will try to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Panathinaikos.

Anadolu Efes Form & Team News

Efes passed their first challenge of the week in the Euroleague on Wednesday and are now focusing on the next one.

In Sinan Erdem Arena, they beat Baskonia 92-76, with the visitors only able to threaten briefly. The game was pretty much decided halfway through the final quarter when Efes stretched a 6-point lead to 16, securing a comfortable finish.

Once again, most of the team stepped up. Rodrigue Beaubois (18 points) continued his strong shooting, while Shane Larkin (16 points) remains key to the team’s success as the season moves forward.

The good news for Efes and coach Banchi is that Vincent Poirier’s injury wasn’t serious, and he was able to return to the starting lineup, putting up 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

With a full squad, Efes are now preparing for Maccabi, expecting nothing less than a win.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Form & Team News

Maccabi played another strong game on Tuesday, but in the end, they came up short against the reigning champions, Panathinaikos.

For most of the game, Maccabi controlled the pace and held a steady lead. At the start of the final quarter, they were up by as many as 15 points, and it looked like they might pull off another surprise.

But then Lorenzo Brown and Kendrick Nunn stepped up and made sure that didn’t happen.

Six Maccabi players finished in double figures, with Levi Randolph leading the way with 21 points, and Jake Cohen adding 15.

They used up a lot of energy in this game, and we’ll see how they do against Efes, especially since they’ll be missing the injured Hoard, Rivero, and Shayok.

Head to Head

In recent seasons, matches between these two clubs have often been high-scoring affairs. This was also the case in their earlier meeting this season, where Maccabi triumphed 93-91.

Verdict

In recent weeks, Efes have looked unstoppable in the Euroleague, and it’s no surprise that many higher-ranked teams might be wary of facing them in a potential quarterfinal matchup.

Credit to Maccabi for their strong performances in the past period, but the question is how much they can offer against such a team, especially after an exhausting game with a shortened rotation against Panathinaikos.
