Aston Villa eased past Bournemouth in an important 1-0 win that has moved them level with fifth-placed Chelsea in the standings.

Tottenham sit a single place above the relegation zone after they suffered a 20th defeat of the season.

Aston Villa have been superb this season, and their battling win over Bournemouth means they can still secure a Champions League place if they can better the results of Chelsea in fifth.

Villa’s 10 wins at home is an impressive record, and they should make it 11 wins in 19 when they host Tottenham. Spurs have been awful this season, and they are the type of opponent Villa simply have to beat if they are to finish in the top five.

While Villa have been strong going forward, they have had to compensate due to the amount of goals they have conceded. 49 conceded is the highest of any side in the top seven, and I back them to once again outscore the opposition after conceding.

Tottenham have been suffering from a horrendous season that should have had them battling against relegation at this late stage of the season.

Like Manchester United, Spurs have been spared a stunning relegation battle by the weakness of the teams below them, with 18th-placed Ipswich 16 points behind Spurs. While two wins would see Spurs secure 44 points, this may not be enough to see them spared 17th-place if the sides above them can match the London side.

However, winning consecutive games in the league seems fanciful. Tottenham have lost 20 of their 36 matches in the league, and I back them to slip to a 21st loss as they trundle to an awful finish in the Premier League.

I am backing Tottenham to score, but I do not predict that they will win as Villa show the travelling side how far below the best teams in the league they currently are.
