Cleveland Cavaliers at Miami Heat Preview
The winner of this playoff series is all but certain — the only question is what the final score will be.
Can the Heat at least grab a consolation win, or will the Cavaliers complete the sweep in Game 4?
We’ll have the answer early Tuesday morning, Central European Time.
Miami Heat Form & Team News
By their standards, the Miami Heat are having a fairly average season, marked by numerous injury issues and internal problems involving Jimmy Butler.
From this perspective, even reaching the playoffs feels like a success, especially considering they had to get there through the Play-In Tournament, winning two games on the road.
However, this is where their journey ends, as they haven’t even managed to seriously challenge the Cavaliers in the first three games.
After two losses in Cleveland, they were convincingly beaten 124–87 on their home court in Game 3.
Midway through the first quarter, the Heat held a 15–6 lead, but from that point on, the game turned into a one-way street, with the visitors building a massive 20-point lead by halftime.
The Heat shot a dreadful 38% on two-point attempts, and it’s clear that with such poor shooting, they wouldn’t have been able to threaten even much weaker teams than the Cavaliers.
Cleveland Cavaliers Form & Team News
Even though they lost their second-best player, Darius Garland, to injury ahead of the game, the Cavs had no trouble securing a third straight win.
In Garland’s absence, a rejuvenated Ty Jerome took on a bigger playmaking role, posting a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists in just 22 minutes on the floor.
Five other Cavaliers players also scored in double figures. Jarrett Allen led the way with another strong double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
De'Andre Hunter delivered his best performance of the playoffs with 22 points, Evan Mobley was his usual solid self with 19 points, Max Strus added 18, while Donovan Mitchell finished with a relatively modest 13 points.
The Cavs will look to finish the job in the next game, although it’s still unclear whether Darius Garland will be available. Given how comfortably they’re handling the Heat, it’s possible Cleveland will opt to rest him again.
Head to Head
The first meeting between these two teams this season went to the Heat, who won 122–113, but since then — including the playoffs — the Cavs have won the next five matchups by an average margin of 18 points.
Verdict
They'll likely end up without a single win in this series against the Cavs, but I expect them to put up a much better offensive showing in Game 4 and offer more resistance.
