England vs West Indies 1st T20 Preview & Tips – West Indies tipped to get opening T20 win over England

The West Indies were not at their best across the ODI series, but they have brought a very strong squad to compete in the T20 series this month. 

West Indies have won four of their last 10 against England in T20 cricket, with the latter winning the other six. 

England have struggled of late in the T20 format, with the side slipping to five defeats across their last six. While four of these defeats did come to a very strong Indian side, their 150-run defeat in the final T20 really showcased which of the two sides is in the ascendancy. 

The job for England in this series will be trying to ensure their woes in the shortest format do not continue. Meanwhile, they will not want the momentum they generated from their series win over the Windies in the ODI format to stall. 

However, with a stacked squad that features many of their best players available, the West Indies will be very confident that they can compete where they failed in the 50 over game. 

England’s batting lineup can be feast of famine at times, with their style of play often seeing wickets fall quickly. While they have every chance of winning this series, I believe they will have to do it the hard way after losing the opener. 

The West Indies were very poor in their recent T20 series against Bangladesh as they were beaten 3-0, with this including a heavy 80 run defeat in their final match. 

Across all formats, the West Indies have been inconsistent. Since their loss to Bangladesh, they have drawn 1-1 in their Test series with Pakistan before seeing the same scoreline in their ODI series with Ireland. Meanwhile, their series against England ended in defeat. 

The key focus for the Windies will be that they have been able to put together a very strong squad for this T20 series. As mentioned, neither of the two teams have been great in the T20 format, meaning this will likely come down to which side starts better. With a lot of experience being added to their touring party, I back the travelling side to open their T20 series against England with a much-needed win.
