Fenerbahce vs Paris Preview
Tuesday brings the first of back-to-back games at Ulker Sports Arena as Fenerbahce and Paris face off in the EuroLeague quarterfinals.
Will Fenerbahce open the Playoffs series with a win as expected, or can Paris pull off yet another surprise?
Fenerbahce Form & Team News
Fenerbahce are coming off an excellent EuroLeague regular season, which they’ll now look to crown with a trip to the Final Four.
With a 23-11 record, they finished second in the standings behind Olympiacos, earning what turned out to be a somewhat unexpected playoff matchup against Paris.
Head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius was recently honored with the Alexander Gomelsky Coach of the Year award, while Nigel Hayes-Davis earned a spot on the All-EuroLeague First Team.
Fenerbahce undoubtedly enter this series as the favorites, but there’s no need to stress how dangerous and unpredictable coach Tiago Splitter’s team can be.
Ahead of this clash, Fenerbahce took on city rivals Bahcesehir in the Turkish League and came away with a convincing 95-80 win over a quality opponent.
Veteran Erick McCollum led the way with 17 points, Biberovic added 15, while Nigel Hayes-Davis came close to a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Coach Jasikevicius can be pleased with both his team’s form heading into the most important part of the season and the current health status of the squad, as he’ll have a full roster available for Game 1.
Paris Form & Team News
In their debut EuroLeague season, Paris secured a playoff spot via the Play-In, and they did it in stunning fashion—with a road win over the most decorated club in European basketball, Real Madrid.
The Parisians shocked everyone with an 81–73 victory at the WiZink Center, but can anything really surprise us anymore when it comes to a team coached by former NBA champion with the Spurs, Tiago Splitter?
T.J. Shorts was once again unstoppable, finishing with 23 points and 9 assists, and when Nadir Hifi (15 pts) gets going alongside him, opposing defenses are in real trouble.
On top of that, Paris played outstanding defense, completely neutralizing Edy Tavares and securing a fully deserved win that landed them 7th place and a ticket to the playoffs.
Over the past month, Paris have been the most efficient offense in the EuroLeague, averaging 92 points per game. That scoring surge has largely been fueled by elite three-point shooting—and if they can maintain that efficiency in the playoffs, their opponents are in for a tough time.
The main concern might be their shortened rotation, as Maodo Lo is still recovering from injury, and Daulton Hommes has unfortunately been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Head to Head
The game between these two teams played just under a month ago will be remembered as one of the best matchups of this EuroLeague season. Fenerbahce came out on top with a thrilling 101–100 victory, sealed by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Nigel Hayes-Davis.
Verdict
Fenerbahce are a much more experienced team than Paris, and with the added advantage of home court, that could prove to be the deciding factor in Game 1.
