Stake scores a big win as its April Fools joke shocks the world of Formula 1 with a tasty steak-covered livery.

Marketing Triumph As F1 Steak Car Wins April Fools

Always wanting to stand out from the crowd, Stake, in collaboration with design firm Beyond Studios, revealed an eye-catching ‘Steak Car’ livery for its KICK Sauber F1 Team. This had the world of Formula 1 in a spin, with few realizing it was an elaborate April Fools joke.

The ‘Steak Car’ livery dropped on Stake’s social media channels, and the response was superb. Images on Instagram and X notched up more than 7 million organic impressions in the first 24 hours, as the campaign instantly went viral.

Not wanting to stop there, Stake told fans they could also purchase branded merch, including a special Stake sauce and a steak-shaped mouse pad that it aptly called the ‘Meat Pad’ from the brand’s online merchandise shop.

Keeping the gag going, people from both Beyond Studios and Stake made public comments about the ‘Steak Car’ livery.

Beyond Studios Creative Director and Partner Cole Poska was quoted as saying, “We’re in a world where every campaign fights for attention, so we set out to create something that would cut through the noise and demand a reaction.

The shock factor of a meat-wrapped F1 car was just the start—the real art was transforming that wild idea into a livery that’s both provocative and undeniably stylish.”

While, Team Stake couldn’t hide its delight at this out-of-the-box campaign, with a spokesperson saying, "We’re absolutely thrilled about this reveal! Our brand has never shied away from being bold to introduce ourselves, and the ‘Steak’ car is no different. We are overwhelmed by fan reactions—this livery is sure to continue to turn heads."

Formula 1 is a serious multi-billion-dollar business that we don’t associate with April Fools pranks. This is why the campaign worked so well. It wasn’t until the cars (with the KICK Sauber livery) took to the circuit for practice at the Japanese Grand Prix that fans learned it was all a joke.

Stake F1 2025 - The Season So Far

The 2025 season got off to a spectacular start for the Stake KICK Sauber F1 team at the Australian Grand Prix, as new driver Nico Hulkenberg took the chequered flag in 7th place. This result earned him 6 points for the Driver’s and Constructor’s Championships.

However, things haven’t gone to plan since, with the next three races yielding no points:

  • Chinese Grand Prix: Gabriel Bortoleto 14th and Nico Hulkenberg 15th
  • Japanese Grand Prix: Nico Hulkenberg 16th and Gabriel Bortoleto 19th
  • Bahrain Grand Prix: Gabriel Bortoleto 18th and Nico Hulkenberg DNF

There is still a long way to go, and Stake will be hoping that the original “Steak Car” picks up more points to lift it off the bottom of the Constructor’s table.
