Stake F1 Team Secures First Podium at Silverstone Thriller

Formula 1 is arguably one of the most unforgiving sports on the planet. Mega-rich teams invest millions in development, testing, drivers, and numerous other initiatives, often with limited success.

The owners of Stake.com knew the challenge when they partnered with Sauber in 2024 to create the Stake F1 KICK Sauber Team. 

Many a team would have buckled after only picking up four points throughout the entire 2024 season. Those came in the second-to-last race of the season at the Qatar GP. However, that isn’t Stake’s style, which is why it's the world’s leading online gambling platform.

During the close season, Stake F1 Team brought the experienced Nico Hulkenberg back to Formula 1 with the aim of elevating the Formula 1 newcomers further up the grid.

The opening race of the 2025 season saw Hulkenberg come home in 7th place, Stake’s best-ever result in Formula 1. However, the following eight races yielded zero points. 

As the F1 roadshow headed to Europe, there was renewed optimism. In the ninth Grand Prix of the season in Spain, The Hulk delivered again, coming home in 5th place. They were getting closer!

More points following in the next race (the Canadian Grand Prix), with Nico Hulkenberg finishing in 8th. A slice of history was made in Austria - the 11th Grand Prix of the season - as both Stake F1 team drivers finished in the points (Gabriel Bortoleto 8th and Hulkenberg 9th).

Next up, Silverstone, and the British Grand Prix. It was a dramatic, chaotic race that had rain, safety cars, and everything else. This was the moment - an expert drive by Nico Hulkenberg in testing conditions helped the Stake F1 Team secure its first podium in Formula 1. It was also The Hulk’s first podium in 239 F1 races.

A history-making season, and there are still 12 races remaining. Will Stake actually win an F1 race? I, for one, would not bet against it!

McLaren's Lando Norris claimed victory in the 2025 British Grand Prix - his maiden win on home soil. Norris took full advantage of team-mate Oscar Piastri being given a 10-second penalty for erratic driving following the restart from a safety car, which led to world championship spin Max Verstappen spinning.

A torrential rain shower, followed by a drying track in the latter stages, produced one of the most thrilling races in recent years. While the McLarens were in a league of their own, there were many exciting battles happening elsewhere as teams scrambled to pick up as many points as they could.

Following Max’s spin and the treacherous conditions, Nico Hulkenberg, who started from 19th on the grid, found himself battling with Lance Stroll for 3rd place halfway through the race. After taking Stroll, The Hulk produced a measured drive as home hero Lewis Hamilton tried to hunt him down in the closing laps. 

In addition to Stake F1 Team making history with its first podium, Hulkenberg set a record for the longest time (239 races) before an F1 driver finished in the top three.
