  • Stake Poker's $200K GTD Showdown runs until December 31.
  • Qualify from $0.50 in three steps, or pay $1,000 for direct entry.
  • Tips for satellite play, plus five more Stake Poker promos.
You can start a run at a $1,000 Stake Showdown seat for 50 cents. It's Stake Poker's big online tournament, with $200,000 guaranteed.

The promotion runs until December 31, 2026, so you've got two full months to make your move. Win your way through three qualifying rounds, and you're in. If you would rather skip the grind, you can buy your seat outright for $1,000.

Whichever way you get in, you're playing for a final table spot and a real chunk of that prize pool.

What is the Stake Showdown?

The $200,000 guarantee is the main draw. The prize pool can't drop below that, no matter how many players show up.

If the buy-ins fall short of $200K, Stake covers the difference. Poker players call that an overlay, and it's extra value for everyone playing in the tournament. If more players than expected show up, the pool grows past the guarantee, which is why the prize is listed as $200,000+.

Every Stake Showdown event, from the cheapest qualifier right up to the main tournament, sits in the Stake Poker tournament lobby.

How the Stake Showdown Rounds Work

Win a round (qualifying event) to earn a ticket to the next round. Here's how the ladder looks from bottom to top.

Stage
Buy-in
What you win
Round 1$0.50Entry to Round 2
Round 2$10Entry to Round 3
Round 3$100Entry to the Stake Showdown (a $1,000 seat)
Stake Showdown$1,000Win a share of $200,000

The jumps are pretty wild. Step 1 turns $0.50 into a $10 seat, which is 20x, and Steps 2 and 3 are 10x each.

Run the whole ladder and that's 2,000 times your money before the main event even starts.

You don't have to begin at the bottom, either. You can jump in at any step, so paying $10 or $100 lets you skip a round or two.

Should You Qualify or Buy in Direct?

Buying in for $1,000 is the quickest route. You lock in your seat straight away and save all your energy for the main event. It makes sense if you've got the bankroll and don't fancy sitting through three tournaments to get there.

The qualifier route takes longer, but it's far easier on your wallet. Busting out of a $0.50 or $10 qualifier stings a lot less than losing $1,000, and the seat at the end is exactly the same.

Round 3 is a handy middle ground where you can join. For $100, you're one good run away from a $1,000 seat in the Stake Showdown.

Tips for Climbing the Stake Showdown Ladder

Qualifiers don't play quite like normal tournaments, so here are a few things worth changing.

  • Play for the seat, not the win. When a step hands out several seats, the player who finishes first usually gets the same ticket as the one who scrapes in last. Once you're close, there's no reason to gamble your stack on a coin flip.

  • Tighten up near the bubble. When the number of players left gets close to the number of seats on offer, survival matters more than chips. Fold the marginal hands and let the short stacks take the risks.

  • Check the lobby before you start. Look at the start times for each step so you know when they run. That way you won't win a ticket and then find you can't make the next event.

  • Set a budget first. Decide how many qualifiers you're willing to fire at before you sit down. Small buy-ins add up faster than you'd think, especially on a cold run.
