Bayern vs Crvena Zvezda Preview
Bayern and Crvena Zvezda will square off at BMW Park in Munich in the opening EuroLeague Play-In matchup.
Both sides stumbled at the finish line, losing their final regular season games and missing out on a more favorable position.
Now, with no margin for error, they’ll have to take the hard way to the Playoffs — with a potential showdown against Olympiacos waiting on the other side.
Bayern Form & Team News
Bayern looked like a near-lock for the Playoffs just a few weeks ago, but back-to-back losses to close out the regular season saw them slide all the way down to 9th place.
Now, they’ll have to take the long road if they want to reach the postseason and a potential matchup with Olympiacos.
After a painful and unexpected loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv, Bayern had a chance to bounce back in front of their home crowd against Fenerbahce — but came up short once again.
From the opening tip, the visitors from Istanbul dictated the pace, knocking down shots from all over the floor and jumping out to a 14-point lead just five minutes in. Bayern didn’t manage to cut the deficit to single digits until midway through the final quarter — and by then, they were out of steam.
Carsen Edwards once again led the team in scoring with 26 points, while Devin Booker had his best game since returning from injury, adding 15. But the lack of support from the rest of the roster was glaring.
Shabazz Napier, Vladimir Lucic, and Andreas Obst combined for just 7 points — a key reason Bayern never really threatened Fenerbahce down the stretch.
Crvena Zvezda Form & Team News
For the second EuroLeague game in a row, Crvena Zvezda suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime.
After falling to Anadolu Efes in Belgrade, the Red-Whites endured another painful defeat — this time in Athens, against the reigning EuroLeague champions, Panathinaikos.
Overall, Zvezda played a strong game, fueled by red-hot shooting from Cody Miller-McIntyre and Nemanja Nedović, but they couldn’t land the final blow on a PAO team that was on the ropes.
With under three minutes left in regulation, the visitors held an 8-point lead. However, Panathinaikos rallied behind Kendrick Nunn and Juancho Hernangómez to erase the deficit and force overtime.
One of the turning points came late in the fourth quarter when CMM — who had been the best player on the floor with 26 points — went down with an injury on a drive to the basket. He returned later, clearly hurt, and couldn’t perform at the same level.
The good news is that Miller-McIntyre will be available for the clash with Bayern. Zvezda are expected to travel to Munich at full strength, with the only absentee being Joel Bolomboy.
Head to Head
Crvena Zvezda took the first head-to-head this season in dominant fashion, cruising to a 101–77 win in Belgrade.
However, Bayern got their revenge on home court, responding with an equally convincing 100–82 victory in Munich — led by a stellar 30-point performance from Carsen Edwards.
Verdict
They’ll be without Joel Bolomboy, but Filip Petrusev is expected to play a bigger role after logging just five minutes in the previous game due to illness.
This is the kind of matchup where Zvezda’s players will have to show what they’re truly made of.
