Chile vs Argentina Preview & Tips

Chile currently prop up the World Cup Qualifying table after winning just two of their 14 matches in this cycle.

Argentina are the top side in the qualifying group after picking up 31 points from a possible 42.

  • Chile have lost eight of their 14 qualifying games (W2, D4)
  • Argentina have won 10 of their matches (D1, L3)

Head To Head

Argentina have won six of their last 10 against Chile, with the latter winning once and the other three ending as draws.

Chile Form

It has been a World Cup Qualifying campaign to forget for Chile so far, with the nation tasting victory in just two of their 14 matches.

Despite only picking up 10 points, they still have a chance of finishing in the top seven, but they will need to be near perfect. With four games left to come, 12 points would see them end on 22 points, likely enough to finish above Venezuela. However, this would have to see them secure double the amount of wins in four games than they have managed in their previous 14.

With three defeats in their last three against Argentina, this one looks like it will merely end in Chile being pushed further away from the top spots in the group.

Argentina Form

Argentina secured a 4-1 win over Brazil in the last round that further underlined their claim to being the best side in qualifying.

Victory was their third consecutive win and 10th in 14 attempts, with Argentina now eight clear of Venezuela in second. A win in this match will all but secure top spot in qualifying with three games still to come.

With four wins in seven on the road and victories in their last three against Chile, I am backing Argentina to secure their 11th win in qualifying as they extend their impressive run.

Verdict

I am backing Argentina to secure another win as they tighten their grip on top spot in the group.
