England vs West Indies 3rd ODI Preview & Tips


England held their nerve to secure victory in their ODI series against the West Indies as Joe Root led the home side to a three-wicket win in the second ODI.

The West Indies could not make the most out of their chances against England as they slipped to a second consecutive defeat.

England have won five of their last 10 ODI's against the West Indies, with the latter winning the other five.

England were indebted to a strong bowling display from Adil Rashid (4/63) and Saqib Mahmood (3/37) along with a masterclass in batting from Joe Root (166 not out) as they rode their luck on the way to a second consecutive win against the West Indies. 

Some awful fielding saw catches go down and run out chances missed, with England unable to stamp their authority on the game. Ultimately, they were fortunate the West Indies could only post 308 as they were bowled out in 47.4 overs. 

With the bat, England were left reeling at 2/2 after Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett departed for ducks. The wicket of Harry Brook (47) saw a mini-collapse as England went from 87/2 to 133/5. However, Joe Root was imperious with the bat as he played his way to a stunning 166 not out featuring 21 fours and two sixes at 119.42. 

For all of the big, explosive hitters in this England side, undoubtedly their best batsman is Root, who soaked up all of the pressure and played England to a crucial win. I back Root to show why he is the best as he goes past 50 runs scored for the third consecutive game as he hands Harry Brook a 3-0 win in his first ODI series as captain. 

West Indies Form


The West Indies were flying at 147/1 in the 25th over, but they lost nine wickets for 161 runs, with a total 14 balls left unused. With the bat, the travelling side will feel they let themselves down after building a solid base. 

While there were moments of class on show with bat and ball, the Windies once again allowed a promising position to come to nothing. Their good start should have resulted in the tourists building well beyond 320 runs. They also had England at 2/2 and 133/5, but they could not show the necessary ruthlessness to beat their hosts. 

While they have been improving with each match that has gone by, I back them to slip to defeat once again as they end their ODI series with England on the back of a 3-0 loss. 

Verdict

I am backing England to win the series 3-0 as Joe Root passes 50 runs scored for the third consecutive match in this series.
