Manchester United vs Aston Villa Preview & Tips
Manchester United arrive for their final league game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final that has compounded a terrible season.

- Head To Head
- Manchester United Form
- Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa know that even a win in their final match might not be enough to see them finish in the top five due to Chelsea boasting a +20 goal difference to Villa’s +9.
- Aston Villa have won their last three league games
- Manchester United are winless in their last eight in the league (L6, D2)
- Villa have won to nil in their last three matches
- United have lost to nil in their last two league games
Head To Head
Villa have won two of their last 10 against United, with the latter winning five times and three matches ending as a draw.
Manchester United Form
It will be a tough ask for Manchester United's players to lift themselves after an insipid performance in the Europa League final saw them beaten 1-0 by Tottenham. With the chance to put a shine on an awful season, United stalled on the big stage, meaning they will end the season without a place in Europe or a piece of silverware.
In the league, United have been woefully bad. 18 defeats in 37 attempts shows how poor they have been, with the 39 points they have picked up meaning they are only 14 clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, they are a massive 44 points behind leaders Liverpool.
With the Europa League final in midweek sapping a lot of mental and physical energy, I predict one final insipid league performance from Manchester United as they bring the curtain down on their campaign with a 19th defeat.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa are within a whisker of securing a Champions League place for next season after an excellent campaign for the side.
19 wins is only one less than last season’s champions Manchester City, while they are level on points with fourth placed Newcastle and fifth placed Chelsea. While they do have 66 points, they are hampered by their inferior goal difference, with this giving the Magpies and the Blues a big advantage.
Simply put, Aston Villa have to win and hope the others drop points. While travelling to face United would be a nightmare match to need points from in years gone by, this season is different. United have lost nine of their 18 at home, while Villa arrive on the back of three consecutive wins.
Verdict
I am backing Villa to secure a huge win in their final league game as they do all they can to finish in the top five spots.
