Oklahoma City Thunder at Indiana Pacers Game 4 Preview
Can the Pacers defend their home court once again, or will the visitors bounce back to even the series after losing the first game?
Indiana Pacers Form & Team News
In a fantastic atmosphere created by their fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Pacers managed to defeat OKC and take a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals series.
Despite a slow start—trailing by eight points after the first 12 minutes—the Pacers stuck to the style of play that has defined them in recent seasons. Not only did they erase the deficit by halftime, but they went into the break with a 64-60 lead.
The key figure behind the turnaround was the brilliant Ben Mathurin, who scored 14 points in the second quarter alone and, alongside veteran T.J. McConnell, brought a much-needed spark off the bench.
The two teams traded leads until the middle of the fourth quarter, when the home side broke the game open with a 15-7 run, fueled by excellent defense, and secured a crucial victory.
Mathurin finished as the game’s top scorer with 27 points in just 27 minutes. Tyrese Haliburton was one assist shy of a triple-double, recording 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Pascal Siakam added 21 points.
The undeniable X-factor for the Pacers was T.J. McConnell, who racked up an impressive 5 steals in just 15 minutes of play.
Oklahoma City Thunder Form & Team News
The top team from the regular season turned in another performance they'd rather forget — and quickly — as they now must shift focus to the crucial upcoming game.
OKC failed to impose their signature defensive identity and couldn’t generate the steals that usually lead to easy transition points. That was one of the two key reasons behind their loss. The other was an uncharacteristically quiet night from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The league MVP had one of his weaker playoff outings, finishing with 24 points (9-of-20 shooting), 4 assists, and 6 turnovers — far from his usual standard.
Jalen Williams did his best to inject energy into the team and was OKC’s standout performer, ending the night with 26 points and 6 rebounds. However, the overall team synergy was missing.
Chet Holmgren added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, though he went 0-for-6 from three-point range. Luguentz Dort chipped in 12 points.
All eyes now turn to Game 4, where OKC will be under pressure — a situation they've already faced earlier in these playoffs against the Denver Nuggets.
Head to Head
Despite losing both regular-season matchups against OKC, the Indiana Pacers have found a way to stand their ground — and now lead 2-1 in the NBA Finals.
Verdict
This is a chance for the home team to play with energy once again in front of their fans and get one step closer to their first title. At the very least, I expect a tight game.
