PSG vs Atletico Madrid Preview & Tips - PSG backed to secure win in goal-filled clash with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid will have their work cut out for them in their opening Club World Cup match as they take on arguably the best side in club football. 

The pair have met three times in total, with PSG winning once, Atletico winning once and one game ending as a draw.

PSG were the outstanding team in Europe in 2025 as they secured the Champions League trophy after a stunning 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final. 

Their rise to the trophy was even more impressive as they suffered from an incredibly slow start to the tournament that saw them at risk of elimination at the group-stage. Their route to the final saw them defeat Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal before their demolition of Inter Milan in the final. 

If PSG can hit the heights they soared to in the knockout stages of the Champions League then they will win the Club World Cup this summer. Sometimes, it can be tough playing against opposition from a different continent, so PSG may yet be pleased to see the fairly familiar sight of Atletico Madrid in their opener.

I expect goals in this one, with PSG running out as the winners.

A 2-1 win over PSG in the group-stage of the Champions League back in November was an impressive result, but it came before PSG's resurgence. While Atleti are one of the best defensive sides in the game today, they will struggle to contain a PSG side running at full tilt. 

While I back the Spanish outfit to score, I do not predict that they will win this one as they slip to defeat.
