Themed upon the ancient Aztec civilisation, Aztec Smash is a Pragmatic Play creation that was released only last month, in January 2025.

The slot is built on a huge 7 by 7 game board. However, there are no traditional winlines. Instead, Pragmatic opted to employ a cluster pays game mechanic where five matching symbols that are adjacent to one another trigger a win.

Aztec Smash follows Pragmatic Play’s blueprint for successful slots. It is not overloaded with features, but there’s enough action in the base game and free spins feature to keep players on the edge of their seats.

After a winning cluster, the symbols that formed the win disappear from the reels. This activates the tumble reels mechanic, allowing symbols directly above to drop down and fresh symbols to be added at the top to fill the game board.

As a result, Aztec Smash can produce multiple cluster wins from a single spin in both the base game and bonus round.

After any spin or a tumble in the base game, random symbols can be highlighted. If a highlighted symbol is part of a cluster win, the payout is multiplied by 10x.

The scatter symbol unlocks the Aztec Smash free spins feature. How many free spins you get is determined by the number of scatters:

During this feature more Smash Multipliers appear on the reels. Furthermore, a Smash Multiplier Meter is added to the game. This increases by 10x each time a highlighted symbol is part of a cluster win. It moves up in 10x steps up to 100x, then in 100x steps to a maximum of 1,000x.
