Fenerbahce vs Besiktas Game 1 Finals Preview

After more than nine months since the season began, its finally time for the Turkish Super League finals, where the top-ranked Fenerbahce will face second-placed Besiktas.

Will the European champions defend their home court advantage in the opening game of the series, or will the visitors steal an early break?

Fenerbahce Form & Team News

Unlike their hard-fought quarterfinal series against Turk Telekom, which they barely got through, Fenerbahce had no trouble in the semifinals against Bahcesehir, sweeping the series 3-0. That gave them five extra days of rest and preparation ahead of the finals compared to Besiktas.

Fenerbahce didn’t want a repeat of the Turk Telekom situation, so they came out highly motivated to finish the job in Game 3 of the semifinals. They won that game 93-84.

The scoring was well balanced across the roster — five players finished in double figures, while two more added 8 points each.

The top scorers were Wade Baldwin and Metecan Birsen with 16 points apiece, followed by Marko Guduric with 14.

It’s already known that Fenerbahce will look quite different next season, as key players like Nigel Hayes-Davis and Marko Guduric are set to leave the club. This makes the final a great opportunity for them to say goodbye with another trophy.

Besiktas Form & Team News

After a surprising road win in Game 4, Besiktas made the most of their home-court advantage by winning the decisive Game 5 and securing a place in the Turkish league finals for the first time in eight years.

In a thrilling atmosphere at the BJK Akatlar Sports Complex, the black-and-whites defeated Anadolu Efes 82–75, sparking wild celebrations among their fans.

Besiktas held the lead for most of the game and managed to withstand serious pressure from the two-time EuroLeague champions early in the fourth quarter. In the end, they fully deserved what will go down as one of the club’s biggest wins in history.

The outstanding Jonah Mathews led the way with 28 points, while Yigit Arslan added 17 points and 8 rebounds. The Turkish forward also went a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc, with several of those shots coming in crucial moments when Efes was threatening to turn the game around.

Besiktas will now compete for their third Turkish league title. Their last championship came in 2012 under head coach Ergin Ataman.

Head to Head

These two clubs have met four times this season, with Fenerbahce coming out on top in three of those matchups. The most notable win came in the Turkish Cup final, where they dominated with a 104–81 victory.

Verdict

Both teams have played high-scoring basketball throughout the playoffs, which promises an entertaining game at the very least.

Fenerbahce are clear favorites in Game 1, and the visitors will need to be sharp from beyond the arc to stay competitive. I'm expecting a fast-paced game with plenty of points.
